As it is, many, many people like you and me have the annoyance and frustration of dealing with the inevitable failures of the inferior valves. For an extra couple of bucks, they could use a decent fitting that would operate flawlessly and last for decades. That's why I grump about the original contractors using the stupid el-cheapo valves in the first place. In that case, you may have to examine them one-at-a-time. I would be surprised to learn things are otherwise at your house - unless you have an older house that had replacements done already. I suspect every one you have will be the same so upon figuring the first one out, you'll likely be all set to handle all the others as well. For DIY, I would suggest shutting your water off, removing the existing valve and taking it complete to the hardware store to obtain equiv. It's one of those things that's easy and quick if you have experience and kind of a frustrating pain if you don't. ![]() One-timer do-it-yourselfers like me generally have to learn from scratch.which is why I'm suggesting the plumber.unless you're really, really interested in learning about it. If you've got any ideas or product recommendations, please let me know. If I'm lost in thought, typing on a keyboard, or watching TV, I need something that will jar me enough to get my attention. I've used hand-held, portable timers in the past, but their beeps were usually so soft that I didn't even notice them - even if they were placed right next to me. I need both qualities - loud sound and continuous beeping until manually turned off. It takes my brain more than 5 beeps to register a new sound. My new microwave has a loud enough sound, but it shuts off automatically after five beeps. My wall oven timer beeps continuously until I turn it off, but the sound is quite soft. But after owning three that only lasted a year, I bought another brand last time the GE stopped working. I used to have a GE microwave that had a really loud & continuous timer beep. However, even with my hearing aids on, if I'm in another room, I don't hear the wall oven or microwave timers beeping. I'm hard of hearing and wear hearing aids. ![]()
